All the feels
Feb. 7th, 2014 11:42 pmOkay, playing that final fantasy retrospective rhythm game that's all about the music. With me so far? Absentmindedly I go to the section with all the Final Fantasy 6 music, because hey, Terra needs a few levels and there's a bonus if I play that section with the lead character. The song that the background for is culled from cutscenes? THEY START WITH THE BLEEPING TRAIN OF DEATH and I hit a wall of Can't.
To explain, that train in-game is the equivelent of Tall, Cloaked, and Bony wielding a scythe. It's what ferries dead souls to the afterlife, and not only does one of the characters in your party have to deal with coming across the bodies of his family in a massacre, due to really crappy luck HE HAS TO WATCH THE SOULS OF HIS DEAD FAMILY BOARD THE TRAIN. No, I don't count this as a spoiler, the game came out in 1994, it's been 20 years.
I didn't even see the whole scene, they just showed us that train for five seconds and cue deep, visceral reaction. Q.Q WTF, brain? Why was this an emotional ambush rather than, 'oh, train of death, nice to include that, moving on'?
