Welp, there goes my day.
Jan. 17th, 2013 03:31 pmFound Robotech: The Macross Saga on Netflix. Considering I first saw it as a toddler on one of the few english speaking channels in Germany, this show along with Voltron helped shape what I thought animation based stories could be.
Going back to it as an adult, it definitely has lost some of the shiny. They spent all the budget on the fight sequences, so my preferred parts of the show, the ones focused on the characters aboard the SDF-1, are very poorly animated. I'm lucky if a person's eyes are pointed in the same direction! And let's... not get into the singing. Or the continuity errors around the music. ("I'll be singing my new song! It's the theme of the film." cue song she performed first in her career.)
And yet, with all that... I still want to serve under Captain Global, on the bridge. I still laugh at the silly jokes, and I have to flat out skip certain episodes with character death, because I hit those and I just CAN'T. It's been three decades, and I still CARE about these people.
Now, half remembered but still dear friends, I can see them on Netflix again. It's been long enough that I don't remember even half of the plot twists. So I guess I'm seeing it again for the first time.
At least I have something to watch while I work on a new scarf?
